fb double flashback: 6 December 2013

"So excited to be seeing this... and to be able to LAUGH this time!!!  Last time I saw it was in May of 1982, after my tubal ligation/ abdominal surgery.  I couldn't laugh and had to clap instead!"

That's what I posted, eleven years ago.
Now, Collective Face Theatre Ensemble is defunct, as is Muse Arts Warehouse.
I'd like to say I could remember this particular performance of the play, but I cannot.
I recall much more of that night in Okinawa, now more than four decades back.
I'd managed to get down the stairs from my third-floor room in the barracks devoted to the Navy men and women at the Torii Station Army base.
That had been quite a feat!
Going downstairs after abdominal surgery stretches muscles not willing to be stretched.
Going back up those same stairs was easier, as the arms can help pull the body upward.
So, I'd gotten downstairs and over to the theatre for "Bell, Book, And Candle".
I was part of the behind the scenes crew with A.C.T.O.R. and I had helped with set construction and painting before my surgery.
I had timed the surgery with Dr. Pacifico such that I would be sure to be there to give morale support to my fellow thespian folks!
And so I was.
Then the curtain went up and the first humorous scene came up and, when I went to laugh, I was struck with pain that had me holding my belly, but I still wanted to respond to the action onstage, so I clapped!
And that continued throughout this play about a witch falling in love with a human.
No wonder I enjoy "Bewitched" still!
