can you cook REAL food?

That was Jackie Frant's query on fb today.
She had a list of REAL food and had marked which ones she'd ever cooked.
Looked like fun to me!
So, I did a cut & paste and changed the answers for my experiences with the making of cuisine, casual or fancy, then posted it to my fb for others to partake.
Here that list is, for me.
Do feel free to pass it along to others!
My guess is some of the questions are very location specific (grits) and some are more age specific (younger people have less experience), but it is a nice way to learn something about other folks.

HAVE YOU EVER:

1. Made bread from scratch? Yes, most recently during the first year of the pandemic. I was making a loaf of beer bread about every other week.

2. Cooked fresh okra or squash? Yes, partly. No for okra, yes to squash.

3. Made homemade soup? Yes, quite a bit! Sometimes even for breakfast!

4. Fried chicken? Yes, though not for several decades. It's just so messy!

5. Made spaghetti sauce from scratch? Most definitely, how else to make sure only the things you want are in it?

6. Made homemade rolls or cinnamon rolls? Yes, though that's been decades ago, too.

7. Baked a cake from scratch? Yes, mostly when I was growing up.

8. Made icing from scratch?  Yes, and I did that in the last few years.

9. Cooked a pot roast with all the veggies? Yes, yes, in the crockpot!!! Yum!!!

10. Made chili from scratch? Of course! In fact, it's time to do that again...

11. Made a meatloaf? Most def!

12. Made potato salad? Yes, but not since I was young, as I don't like it.

13. Made mac/cheese from scratch? Still do! That makes sure the only cheese is cheddar!

14. Made any pies from scratch?  Yes, but not for years. It's just easier to let someone else take care of rolling the dough, right?

15. Made sausage from scratch? Nope.

16. Made fudge? Yes, when I was a teen. Candy making is hard.

17. Made cookies from scratch? Yes, but not for a few years.

18. Cooked a pot of dried beans? Still do every once in a while!

19. Cooked a pot of greens? Absolutely! I especially enjoy mustard greens.

20. Made cornbread from scratch? Of course! But there's something to be said for using that little Jiffy's box now!

21. Made a pie dough from scratch? Yes... refer to #14.

22. Cooked a whole turkey? Yes, but not for a few decades.

23. Snapped green beans & cooked them? Yes! Oh, the many times I've done this!

24. Made mashed potatoes from scratch? Yes, with Lactaid milk!

25. Prepared a meal for 30-plus people? No, but I've done it for 8 and more several times.

26. Made homemade tortillas? Not when they are so easy to buy!

27. Made pancakes from scratch? Yes, most recently with a mango-pineapple flour that Melanie had given me.

28. Roasted vegetables in the oven instead of boiling them? Yes, and that includes beets!

29. Made pasta from scratch? You betcha, and I did it in Italy!!!

30. Made tamales from scratch? Nope.

31. Made tuna or chicken salad? Yes, especially tuna salad!

32. Fried fish? Yes, but not in many years. See #4.

33. Made baked beans? Not From a can? Yes, but my first niece does it better.

34. Made ice cream from scratch? Yes, but not since I was a teen.

35. Made jam or jelly? Nope, not yet.

36. Zested an orange or lemon? Sure, you bet I have!

37. Made grits from scratch? Of course, but I leave that to others now.

38. Made an omelet? Yeppers!

39. Made homemade pizza? Yes, when I was a kid. We'd use the Chef-Boy-R-Dee kit!

40. Lived in a house without a dishwasher? Still do!

Ah... that was a nice bit of fun on that stroll down memory lane!
(smile!)

Here's a post that includes a photo of some of the soda bread I made, using the beer bread recipe.
