game still on - lol!

Who would have thought those little paper doohickeys would be so appealing to kids of all ages?

Who would have made sure to have plenty available in the colors of ACS?

Me, that's who!

And who are these grown folks happily making the folds of the toys?

The student members of the American Chemical Society, at the social specifically for them at SERMACS Savannah!

Thanks to the industrious of the volunteers at Table 6 of the National Chemistry Week event, there were plenty of ChemCatchers already made as giveaways.

Thanks to them, too, for the excellent idea of sharing the printed, unfolded, dad-joke, chem-nerd pun toys with the other students here for the conference.

Big win, y'all!

(smile!)

an afternoon with chemistry: game on!

Subtitle: SERMACS 2019, day 1, NCW event active

What a wonderful afternoon we had!
Did we have busloads of children show up?
Fortunately, we did not.
For the most part, we had a steady number of families, some of whom had seen our ad, some who heard about it on River Street.
That made for a very nice mixture of ages, keeping the day interesting for the volunteers, as they could change their patter to fit each audience at their table.
My thanks to Raven Dean, Chelsea Miller, and Shabrina Jarrell for welcoming one and all at Table 1.
They made sure all participants were given goody bags
to fill, starting with pencils, stickers, and pocket-sized Periodic Tables full of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids!
Plus, they made sure to loan every participant the goggles needed to keep their eyes safe.
(smile)

Once folks had their goody bags started, they were guided to Table 2 to collect their first metal object.
After all, this is in celebration of Marvelous Metals!
At this station, participants received a sealed, aluminum-coated, plastic balloons, which they had to find a way to inflate.
And they did, too, using sodium bicarbonate and citric acid!
That's ordinary baking soda and the tart part of lemon juice!
My thanks to Melina Raymundo, someone else, and Yu Cao for their enthusiasm and joy!
One of them would help smaller participants with breaking the citric acid pouch by taking them to the adjacent walkway, to step on the balloon.
They also demonstrated the reaction which could be heard within the balloon.
What "cool chemistry" that was!
(Get it? Because it was endothermic? LOL!)

Table 3 was sometimes the next station, sometimes the first station folks hit.
There, electrochemistry was the happening thing!
Bright copper was exposed to a cotton swab saturated with sodium chloride, with the aid of a 9-volt battery to allow etching of a design of the participant's choice.
Everyone walked away with a metallic sticker to remember the afternoon of chemistry!
My thanks to Khristal Monroe, Maria Blahove, and Jim Lobue for cheerful encouragement to the participants!
Thanks, also, for perfecting the procedure by using a saturated saltwater that worked most reliably.
That allowed the participants to actually use the cotton swab to easily write and draw on the copper strips.
It helped that they had plenty of samples to show, too!
(smile)

Where to go next?
Well, it varied, dependent upon the group having the hands-on experiences!
I regarded this as the "wet stuff" table... so, naturally, this is where folks picked up the "Saving Savannah's Water" activity books supplied by Laura Walker's office.
That made every station a give-away site to allow chemistry to be shared later, at home, with others.
More spreading the good word of chemistry!
Thank you, Kenayana Thomas and Briana Kinnel, for rocking out at Table 4!
Y'all helped the participants understand density and solubility by using three liquids colored yellow and blue - the colors of the American Chemical Society!
The experimenters even had the chance to identify a mystery liquid based on its behavior.
Very nice!

That brings me to Table 5, the last of the hands-on stations, but with a very nice give-away item: the UV-detecting wristbands!
To make the activity even more fun, the ultraviolet-activated color-changing beads were in a dark bag in a shady location.
That meant the participants could reach in and grab a still-white bead without knowing which of the six colors it would become when exposed on their wristband!
My thanks to Dan Graham and Sabornie Satterjee for keeping this activity light and breezy!
Having these two men staffing the table also made it cool for any fellows who might have been concerned about making 'bracelets' with the bright yellow beads and dark blue stars (again, ACS colors).
"Wristbands" or "armbands", y'all, to encourage everyone to wear sunscreen when the white beads turn purple, green, pale yellow, orange, blue, or pink!

So far, every table has been shown with participants gathered around it.
Why not this one?
Well, Table 6 was the site for the return of the goggles and receipt of the National Chemistry Week issue of "Celebrating Chemistry".
(You can download a copy at this website. You can explore activities for all grades at this site.)
Participants in our event could also receive a sweet treat - a bag of candy - for filling out a short survey.
This close to Halloween, everyone wanted that!
My thanks to this industrious trio!
They are someone, Chan Jenkins, and Robin Tanaka Blitch.
Without them, the goggles would not have been sanitized for the next group of participants.
Without them, the ChemCatchers would not have been folded for easy play, both by those at the event as well as those at SERMACS later today.
Well done, y'all!

All in all, a most successful event!
Most of the folks in this photo were active volunteers, with a few others there to keep up morale.
Four people who should have been included are missing from this photograph snapped by David, though.
Randall Schmidt, who had been helping at Table 5, had to leave early, as did Shabrina Jarrell who worked Table 1.
I missed out on the photo because I was waiting for Jim Lobue, of Table 3, to be able to come over.
All in all, fifteen people kept six tables working like a charm for two hours -
my thanks to them!
My thanks to the folks who came out for an afternoon with chemistry, too!
Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to sit for awhile and smile!
Smitty has just brought me and the tote bags home and it's time to relax!
(smile)

an afternoon with chemistry!

Subtitle: SERMACS 2019, day 1, taking control of Morrell Park.

By noon10, I was at Morrell Park.
My brother Smitty had picked up me - and the fourteen tote bags - and safely transported me there.
He then insisted on staying with me until a few of the volunteers had arrived.
Thank you, my dear brother!
That helped steady my nerves to know you were looking out for your big sister.
(smile)

Speaking of volunteers, here they are receiving instruction at Table 3.
That's my designation for the demonstration on the etching of the copper strips.
My many thanks to the volunteers for showing up and being so enthusiastic!
My thanks also to Todd Hizer for bringing the six tables and to Will Lynch for arranging that.
Kudos to all!

Did I mention that I had designations for the six tables?
Well, I certainly did, and those were spelled out on my game plan.
While I was gathering my wits this morning at home -
that is, trying to not panic and play 'what if' -
a thought popped into my head to write out the details.
Amazing how much that calmed me down!
The very act of making the list of items to be at each table and items to be given away at each gave me confidence that
I had planned as much as anyone possibly could.
i thank You, God.

This is an action shot taken prior to the start of our National Chemistry Week event.
The woman in blue is Patti Galvan, the one from ACS who not only supplied all the materials for the demonstrations, but also carried out the training of the volunteers.
She is at Table 5, setting up the Yellow & Blue experiments.
You're priceless, Patti!
Randall Schmidt, the man in blue talking to one of our police officers, was the only volunteer who ever called me.
Thanks for reaching out, man!

Here's another action shot!
This was taken before the second photo, actually.
That's me at Table 3, grabbing the bag that belongs at the Table 4.
The young man in the blue shirt and khaki pants is Dan Graham, the first volunteer to arrive.
And when he came, he strode right up to me with a smile and an outstretched hand - magnificent!

This is such an excellent photo of the layout in action!
I'm at Table 4, making sure the items for the Yellow & Blue (ACS colors, y'all) are where they need to be and pulling out the trays.
Patti is at Table 2, preparing to demonstrate the Self-inflating Balloons demo and patter.
Table 6, the Exit Table, is in the background.

One last photo of the hexagonal pathway of the tables.
Table 1, with the three young women, has the empty goodie bags, the stickers and pencils, and the safety goggles for all participants.
Going counterclockwise, we see Table 3, Table 5 (for the UV-detecting wristbands), then Table 6 again.
Who's that blue-shirted woman bouncing around in the middle of the lawn?
Me, of course, constantly moving before game time!

And then it was 1:30 and truly time for our afternoon with chemistry to begin!
None of this would have been possible without the advice and assistance of these two!
David Horwitz was on that first conference call, the one on July 17th that lasted almost an hour!
He and Patti had answered my questions about insurance, advertising, demonstrations to use, and ideas for give-aways.

Since then, Patti and I have had several lengthy phone conversations, ironing out more details after the issue of "Celebrating Chemistry: Marvelous Metals" became official on August 1st.
I'm forever grateful that she came by my house on Friday morning to have a practice session... and to approve of my organization of the "tables" by tote bags. That last part truly bolstered my confidence!
My many thanks!
Now, on to the event in the next post!
Stay tuned!

who'll stop the rain

On Thursday, when I went out to GaSoU Armstrong, that was the question I heard.
I was chatting with Cathy MacGowan about payment for the police contingent.
She asked, "What will you do about the rain?"
I replied, "The last time I checked, I was not in charge of the weather."
Patti asked the same question yesterday.
Today, the rain came...
and it has remained.
All last night, all morning, all afternoon, all evening.
That's fine with me.
I have been assured by my favorite retired weatherman that tomorrow will have blue skies and sunshine.
Of course, that means there will also be soggy ground.
So, I have taken advantage of this lull in the action to repack all of the tote bags to withstand moisture.
Fortunately, I had almost enough plastic bags in my house.
Almost.
The top two bags are full of goggles for the participants, mostly in kid size but a few for adults.
I'm not concerned about those becoming wet, but I will make sure they are set down onto plastic dropcloths.
The two yellow bags and the white one (in the blue plastic bag) in the next shot contain 320 "Celebrating Chemistry" activity books.
I had to put plastic sheeting inside those yellow totes and repack.
The same was done for the two
totes of 320 "Saving Savannah's Water" activity books.
The tote full of Skittles was fine.
The two totes of self-inflating balloons (with the green instruction sheets), the tote with the UV-detecting wristbands (purple sheet), the tote for the copper etching (orange sheet) and the one for the Yellow And Blue (yellow sheet) were all water resistant.
All would be placed on plastic sheeting, though, just to be safe.

All together, that's fourteen bags of material to be carried into Morrell Park.
Fourteen bags of demonstration materials and give-away items.
We're planning on three hundred participants tomorrow, but I've packed a little extra.
You know, just in case.
(smile)

I hope that most of the volunteers will show up.
I've only heard from three of them.
Chelsea Miller designed the flyer for my event, in response to a mocked-up version I emailed to the group. (David Horwitz at ACS then jazzed up her version for our final presentation.)
One of the young women had emailed about a safe location for her purse.
And Randall Schmidt called - I mean, seriously, called - to introduce himself. He had also sent several responses to my emails.
That's it.
Three respondents out of twenty on the list of volunteers.
They will show, or they won't - it's out of my control...
just like the rain.
(smile)

Now, I'm going to continue my On Demand Movie Festival, which I began on Thursday.
That night, I watched "Four Weddings And A Funeral", from 1994. I was amazed how much of that quarter-century-old movie that I remembered!
Yesterday, I was in a Halloween frame of mind. That resulted in my enjoyment of "Haunted Honeymoon" and "High Spirits", from 1986 and 1988, respectively, both courtesy of Comet. Hard to believe they're both more than thirty years old!
Then, today, I've seen "MARS"! This was one I'd seen with the Peace Guy at the Lucas, back in 2010! The animated science fiction piece was part of the Southern Circuit of Independent Films, with the writer-director there for a Q&A after. Joe and I had run into each other there, as we had at many events at Muse Arts Warehouse, but this time something clicked and we had walked together to the reception site, talking along the way.
And we still do, nine years later. What a great memory!
Now, I'm going to get in a little Chris Pratt, if you don't mind. "Jurassic World" is starting! I'm very much looking forward to seeing him riding that motorcycle in the herd - pack? flock? murder? - of velociraptors! Oh, yeah!
Until tomorrow!

no fade bear this month!

Fade bear?
What's that, right?
That's the soft-furred, massive beast that wraps you snugly in its arms and draws a velvety paw across your eyes, enticing you to relax... and to sleep... soundly and completely.
I have been far too busy to allow that bear to capture me.
Once I had confirmed volunteers, there were materials to run and fetch, advertising to procure, volunteers to keep enthusiastic.
After all, tomorrow is the big day!!!
So, what's been going on?
Kindly step this way, please!
The show will be starting soon enough!

Will,
Signage for the "Afternoon with Chemistry: A National Chemistry Week Event" would be great.
It would need to include the time (1:00 to 4:00 PM) and location (Morrell Park on River Street, home of The Waving Girl).
Is there anything else needed?

NCW event materials

Hi, Cathy!
I hope the materials have arrived from ACS? The books, the bags, the balloons, the banner, et al?
Also, I have not yet received the invoice from City of Savannah for the Maintenance Deposit. As you may recall, that was the refundable fee for clean-up. Have you received that invoice?
I will call SCMPD tomorrow to arrange for the required security detail. Only two officers should be required. I will let you know if they require a deposit, though it should actually be paid on the day of the event.
Woohoo!
Will has garnered some volunteers. I knew I had zero clout for that, as none of the students know me. Too bad we don't have an Alpha Chi Sigma chapter or we would have had plenty of volunteers!
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Tina

Hi Tina,
It was great talking with you. The items will likely leave the ACS building on Monday. I’ll let you know when they go and I receive the tracking numbers.
These are the write-ups for the activities we discussed.
· Penny for your Drops
· Copper Etching (take home: copper sticker with your design)
· Combining Liquids with Water
· Self-Inflating Balloons (take home: one self-inflating balloon)
· Build a Battery
· ChemCatcher
Plan B Activities
· Clean Pennies with Ketchup ( I cannot seem to find the write-up for this one yet
· UV beads (we talked about this one months ago)
If you are able to get tables, we will need one for each activity. The self-inflating balloon activity can be done without a table, but having one keeps people from grabbing as many balloons as they can carry and leaving. We usually have a welcome table and a separate exit table, but this is up to you. This is how we use the welcome and exit tables.
· Welcome table
· This is a great place to arrange and distribute the goggles and give any instructions you may have. This is also a good place to station someone to count kids and adults who participate in your event.
· Exit table
· You will collect goggles here and trade them for something special that kids want. We typically trade a goody bag in exchange for returning the goggles. We also do a simple survey at the exit table. On the phone call, we talked about showing the activity “Do Chemistry with a Penny” and giving kids the Marvelous Metals issue of Celebrating Chemistry.
If you are not able to get tables, perhaps disposable plastic tablecloths or picnic blankets on the ground will work. This assumes that kids and volunteers will sit on the ground, which may not work for everyone. I will bring trays so that no matter what the arrangement is, to help facilitate traffic flow, define space, and keep supplies together.
I owe you the write-up for A Penny for your Drops. I suspect that I accidentally deleted it, so will need to re-write that one.
Best,
Patti

I am to bring the check to her office on Monday.
As we are expecting 300 people, the check needs to be for $350.00 to City of Savannah.
Their office will not be depositing the check, simply holding it.
As long as we leave Morrell Park neat and tidy, the check never will be cashed.
We can certainly do our own clean up!
Is there a time on Monday, maybe around noon or so, that I can stop by for this?

Laura,
I attended your talk for the Naturalist 101 series at One Hundred Miles and very much enjoyed it. I was especially interested in the activity book, "Saving Savannah's Water". I had spoken to you about perhaps obtaining copies for giveaway at our National Chemistry Week event, scheduled for early afternoon on Sunday, October 20.
You had asked that I wait until our event was about a month out, then to contact you.
So... here I am, hat in hand, so to speak.
We are hoping for about 300 middle-school students to attend our event in Morrell Park.
Would it be possible to obtain that many copies of the activity book?

NCW event in two weeks!

Hello, everyone!
I look forward to meeting you on Sunday, October 20, if not before!
We have possession of Morrell Park, on River Street, from 1 PM to 4 PM that afternoon.
Hopefully, we can set up the six tables in about thirty minutes, so we can begin demonstrations about 1:30 PM. We will then need to start putting all away at 3:30 PM, to give us plenty of time to clean up and leave the park at least as beautiful as we find it.
We are planning on having three hundred students, hopefully in 4th to 8th grades, in attendance.
If you know anyone with kids in that age range, please encourage them to tell their classmates!
We have at least five demonstrations and hands-on activities, plus goodie bags for all!
We will have badges for us to wear, so those will be our souvenirs. :-)
Let's see, what else? Oh, yes, wear sunscreen and please bring your goggles. Safety first!
I've attached a few photos and will send along the write-ups for the demonstrations in the next few days.
Morrell Park is the first park on River Street, coming from the Marriott.
https://www.savannah.com/park-morrell-park/
It is 236 feet long by 26 feet wide and has a wide sidewalk bordering it.
We can set up to either side of The Waving Girl and have plenty of room!
Woohoo!
This is going to be such fun...
and I absolutely could not do it without YOU.
Many thanks!

Dr. Smith,
Where are you going to put the flyer? Is it the flyer that we are going to hand to people? It Is nice that there is an explanation of the event. However, I think, nowadays, people have a short attention span so they will not bother of reading it. I think it should consist of just what, when and where with bigger and bold font. For local ACS recognition, the logo can be put on the bottom. Thank you.

NCW just 2 weeks away!

Hey, Patti!
I was not remembering if the UV beads were to be included or not? I think it would be fun to do, plus the kids would have a take home souvenir! Then again, I may be wanting to do far too many things!
I have "Rust is the Crust" going on at my house and hope to bring the results to show the kids.
I also performed the Yellow and Blue last night and found it pretty interesting. :-)
Has the shipment left yet?
Oh, and I've attached the flyer that one of the volunteers (Chelsea Miller) made. Awesome!

Georcette, my apologies for the confusion.
The application had required both the address of our group and the address of the contact person, i.e., myself.
We had all assumed the correspondence would be sent to me, not to the university.
Okay, so now I have the question about the Maintenance fee, which the letter states should be $450. We submitted a check for $350, based on the rules which were current this summer, when we began this process.
Do I need to have another check written for the difference?
Yes, I am feeling a bit of panic at this point.
I will go ahead and contact the SCMPD about security.
Please let me know what to do about the difference in the Maintenance fee.
Thank you for all of your help,
truly.

October 20th event in Morrell Park

Hello, Sgt. Roger Mydell,
Our group, the Coastal Georgia section of the American Chemical Society, will be hosting "An Afternoon With Chemistry" on October 20th, in honor of national Chemistry Week.
We have received a Special Event Permit for the use of Morrell Park from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on that date, which is Sunday of next weekend.
We are hoping for about 300 attendees, concentrating on students in 4th to 8th grade. We will be using safe practices for our science demonstrations, but we do need to arrange for security to be present.
Georcette Washington of OSEFT has recommended that I contact you to arrange for that security.
Could you please help to arrange that?

one more week to our event!

Happy Saturday, everyone!
On Thursday, I received three boxes of materials from ACS for our NCW event! Balloons! Bracelet beads! Copper sticker materials!
On Thursday, I will pick up the materials from Dr. MacGowan. That will not only include the "Celebrating Chemistry" activity books, but also the cool buttons for us to wear!
To make sure the buttons have maximum visibility, I am
asking everyone to please wear a solid-color top, not ones which have any designs printed on them. I also recommend long pants (in case of gnats) and comfortable shoes. Oh, and lest I forget: sunscreen! We will be out there for several hours.
I am planning to be at Morrell Park by 12:30 PM that day, even though we will not be able to set anything up until 1 PM, when we take possession. I look forward to meeting all of you then, if we have not yet met!
We will have kid-sized goggles for the participants, as well as some regular goggles. I highly recommend that you bring your favorite goggles, as you will be wearing them for quite a while. :-)
I also recommend that you bring water to stay hydrated.
How about advertising?
Our event will be listed in next week's issue of Connect Savannah... and is already listed with DO Savannah!!!

Please feel free to share the link on your facebook or linked in or twitter accounts! I have done so, as well as sharing the flyer.

Oh, yes, the tables! We will have six folding tables dropped off at Morrell Park at 1 PM on the day of the event, thanks to Dr. Lynch and Dr. Hizer. I do hope we will be able to quickly get them into place and set up!
Please make a note of my phone number. I do not have a smart phone, so I will have no access to email on October 20th.

Re: package arrived!

Hi Tina,
My flight arrives on Wednesday afternoon. My time will be flexible. Mainly, I will be staying with my Dad and visiting a few friends, until the event on Sunday. I have a fun trivia-and-prizes presentation at 4:00 pm on Sunday afternoon in the Member Café. On Monday, David Horwitz and I will co-present the Outreach Training program with a couple of members from the Committee on Community Activities. It’s a full-day workshop. Then on Tuesday, I head back, because Wednesday is Mole Day and we have some plans at the ACS buildings.
If you’d like, I can go through the items on Thursday or Sunday and sort them so that there is one tote per activity. I can bring tote bags as I have many. This will make it much easier and quicker to set-up. I was not able to pack as efficiently as I had hoped while cleaning up in Milwaukee. We didn’t have much time between the outreach event and the conference opening ceremony! My volunteers were excellent, but I did not check through everything before throwing it all in the box. You will see!
Let me know if you’d like to meet with me at some point Thursday or Saturday of this week for packing and if it would make you feel more comfortable, a preview of the activities. Friday, morning could work, too. I plan to head to Tybee on Friday early afternoon to visit with a friend who lives out there.

tech rehearsal, final version

Patti Galvan was here this morning so we could run tech together.
Yeah! I finally know a second person for this NCW event!
That was quite reassuring.
(smile)

The box with the goods for the battery building experiment has still not arrived.
At this point, I've dropped it from the line-up.
That's no problem, as we still have a solid four-tables of activities.
Plus, my "afternoon with chemistry" event is listed in this week's issue of Connect Savannah - twice!
Patti was glad to see that, but not as much as I was.
I have it in DO's Big Calendar and on WRHQ, too.

The first practice run she and I did was with the self-inflating balloons, naturally.
(smile!)
They're colorful and have funny insider-type jokes written on them - how to resist all of that?
(smile!)
"Cool Chemistry!" But, of course!
The reaction between the citric acid and baking soda inside the balloon is endothermic!

Next up was the copper etching demonstration.
It had not been working very well so we needed to debug it.
The problem was that the cotton swab was too coarse an instrument for fine drawing, so smears seemed to be the result.
I found that I could draw a design if I dipped the swab in salt, to help complete the electric circuit.
So, what design did I write?
My initials, what else?
(smile!)

We didn't need to practice the Yellow And Blue experiments, as I had already sussed them out.
Patti was pleased that I'd taken it on myself to do that.
That's an "atta girl" for me!
(smile!)
Plus, I had already figured out how to fold the ChemCatchers and had copied them in yellow and blue, so that was done, too.
That left only the UV-detecting bracelets - I mean,
wristbands - to get the timing down on.
Plus, we wanted to see how many beads each participant would receive.
That number was fifteen.
Eight bright yellow beads and two dark blue stars, plus five white beads.
And, oh, what a surprise to see the colors those plain white beads became in the sunlight!
Orange! Pink! Green! Blue! Purple! Pale yellow!
And what did that mean?
Wear sunscreen or the ultraviolet will get ya!!!

Oh, yeah, this is going to go over like gangbusters on Sunday!
(smile!)

two tugboats and a cargo ship

Okay, let me just say that you're not reading the post title in the proper tone.
First, you have to think back twenty years, to get to "Where It's At" -
can you feel me?
Now, all you have to do is speak the title in the rhythm of the catch phrase for that song.
(smile)
Maybe I was just that mellow and relaxed that the hiphop
ditty came so easily to mind.
Hey, that was hours ago and I still feel a little buzz from
that No Jacket Required Pilsner!
Then again, maybe it was from having the brew on a sunny afternoon, up above the city at Rocks on the Roof?
Those two were definitely influences, but I think the absolute kicker was being with Chris Adams of Michigan and sharing stories of Panama that made me feel so young and chill!
I haven't seen her since my 2012 Midwest-Canada adventure!
That's her, the tall one on the left, with her friend, Virginia, both in town for a Road Scholar tour and history "lesson".
They're watching the guy using the puller to make a batch of orange taffy at River Street Sweets.
They'd wanted to actually take in the cobblestones up close and personal, as well as pop into some shops, something they'd not yet had a chance to do.
This place had been the first to grab our attention.
It was the siren call of those sweet aromas that had lured us in, but the store's generosity of free samples kept us there!
In fact, here are Chris and Virginia enjoying some of that taffy, still warm from its workout on the machine and smelling - and tasting - of sunny citrus!
I had a chunk of it, too, to top off the hunks of pralines and toffee and Southern pecans granted earlier.
That means I had sugar, sugar, and more sugar for lunch!

No wonder I'm still floating!
Plus, Zoltar had an uplifting message for me!
"Round and round the ball will spin
Till it draws your good luck in
Ah, I can foretell for you
Good luck in a month or two.
The crystal gazer has wonderful things in store
for you.
A dear one will return from a long trip and your
whole life will be different.
You have a patient disposition and your patience
is about to be rewarded.
Despair not I say for your days of despair will
soon be over.
Your calm spirit, and your good sense will see
you through all emergencies.
You have many friends, particularly in the armed forces. They are loyal to you, and are glad of an opportunity to be of 'service' to you."

I've reconnected on fb this year
with several friends from my two
years in Okinawa.
Maybe one of them can put me in touch with Mikey!
(smile!)
As for my visitors today, after our 'happy hour', they wanted to check out Paula Deen's store, naturally.
They then sent me on my way, assuring me that the DOT shuttle would get them back to the Desoto... and off to shopping on Broughton Street they went.
I knew the DOT would do it, too, as I had been careful
to use it for our ride earlier from their hotel.
Knowledge is not only power but also independence!
(smile)
So, amid hugs from them, I'd boarded the DOT to Forsyth, where my car took me to the church.
It was Southern food night for WNS, with ham and
sweet potato and collard greens!
There was even one lone piece of lemon pound cake waiting amidst all the brownies and marble cake on the dessert table.
That bit of sweet has truly been the icing on the cake of these Wednesday Night Suppers!
For five weeks now I've been blessed with that treat!
And look at that odomoeter: 210090 -
that's what it was when I left Forsyth Park after my day with Chris and Virginia!
I had thought the park was farther away... nope!

Now, I'm back at the park again!
Specifically, of course, I'm at the Sentient Bean for the PFS film, which, on this October eve, is "Monster On The Campus", a 1959 science fiction 'horror' flick.
You know what that means: the phone has to fly away!
Hahahahaha!
Later, tater!
