It was nearly the end of the play, and Uncle Fester has a rocket strapped to his back.

When the mother of Wednesday's boyfriend asks him where he's going, that line was his reply.

Honestly, I just busted out laughing and had to make myself stop!

After all, I doubt if any of the parents would have recognized Ralph's oft-repeated line from "The Honeymooners", but I grew up with Jackie Gleason on the TV.

Plus, that late-night show is often my nightcap before bed on Sundays.

Yes, I was definitely right place, right time, with this musical!

I'm so glad I threw myself out of the house to go see it.

 

"The Addams Family" was at Savannah Country Day, a place I associate with Barbara.

I'd even invited Sandy to come see the middle school musical with me, but she declined.

So, I'd taken myself to it...

and found a familiar name on the program.

Henry Dickerson was there, too, running the soundboard this time instead of lights.

Nice.

I hadn't realized I would also know someone on the stage, but I did!

See the boy in the black suit?

That's Emmett Witchel, as Gomez Addams, holding hands with Morticia Addams.

As soon as I saw him, I flashed back to this summer!

He had worn that same suit in "Bravo, Broadway!", when I'd first noticed him.

That SavChTh summer camp really paid off!

He was definitely one of the most confident and most natural actors this time around!

Yes, I'll be keeping on eye on him as he progresses in his acting roles.

I am so very glad I left home on this drizzly night!

This 75-minute bit of fun was exactly what I needed to bring out the sun!

 

Then I came home to Sam of "Ghosts", wanting to be in a musical.

And which one was it?

No, not "The Addams Family", silly.

It was "Anything Goes"!

I saw that one six years ago, having found out in Jinhi's fb post that it was playing and that her niece, Lillian "Sushi" Soucy, was in it.

So, back to the TV show: Did the innkeeper get the part"

Yes, with Alberta's coaching, she got the role she'd wanted to play in high school!

How very cool that I was home in time for this musical, too.

On the first two days of this week my true love gave to me

two A*List movies in Hindi

and a playwright on a high school stage!

"Hahahaha! That was glorious!"

Thanks! That was actually fairly decent, for off the cuff. Fun to do, too.

"I know it was! Now, talk to me about the piece at the school first!"

I'd love to! Remember the kid at AMC, Henry Dickerson, who also ran lights at Tybee Post? Well, he'd told me that his school, Savannah Country Day, was doing a Shakespeare performance in the fall. So, tonight was the night! Like the play last week, this group of thespians are also destined for the state one-act competition. The difference is, this troupe chose a comedy! "Shakespeare In Love" is getting two runs, tonight and tomorrow. And guess what? Silly me had forgotten to tell Elvis so he could remind me! I would have missed it had I not been cleaning up the November photo album on my computer! That would have been very sad, because I totally enjoyed myself tonight!!!

"Very cool! Looks like you even had a front row seat. I know you like those!"

Not front, but second, with no one in front of me. Yes, 'twas grand!!! That photo was taken as the cast of 22 were taking their bows after their "David Poole" - James Venhaus - called them all forth. They'll have to tighten up on their time, as this ran about 5 minutes too long for the competition rules, but they can certainly do that. Remember the 1998 movie version of this story? That was just over 2 hours in length. This 2014 play was written based on that movie, but was performed in 50 minutes. No idle moments here! The time just flew by!!!

"Wow!!! And you say they'll go at it again tonight? You could see it twice!"

I could, but I will not be doing that. I have the cardiac ablation Thursday at 1 PM, so I am taking things slower, with only the WNS on my schedule tomorrow.

"Oh, yes, I forgot about that date with Dr. Cobb. That's very important, and it's very important that you be chill for Thursday morning. Okay, how about that AMC A*List? You have some Bollywood or Tollywood as your dances?"

Lol! No Tollywood, as those are in Tamil, not Hindi. Actually, neither of these had the huge musical numbers of a Bollywood, though they did have some good party scenes and one had several romantic interludes. "Singham Again" was action, comedy, and romance, with a bit of the Indian myth of Lord Ram and Mother Sita woven in for texture. The best part was seeing so many actors that I already know and love: 55-year-old Ajay Devgn and 44-yo Kareena Kapoor Khan as Bajirao Singham and his wife, Avni, with the myth being mirrored in their romance; 34-yo Tiger Schroff and his father, 67-yo Jackie Schroff, as a keen fan and a mortal enemy, respectively, of Police Commissioner Singham; 39-yo Arjun Kapoor (real-life cousin of Kareena) as the evil enemy's son, determined to destroy all things Singham; 57-yo Akshay Kumar and 39-yo Ranveer Singh, Singham's best buddies; and 38-yo Deepika Padukone, one of the fiercest officers and known as 'Lady Singham' by all... but real-life wife of Ranveer Singh. Pretty cool that so much is all in the family, right?

"Oh, my!!! So many familiar faces in that group!"

Right? My favorite was Ranveer, though. For this role, he sported a thin, twirly-end, mustache and was absolutely enchanting! His role was definitely played as the the comic relief, to break the tension of the non-stop, kick-butt, action. Very, very cool! Just as a side note, guess when his birthday is?

"The 6th of July, just like your middle little brother's..."

The 6th of July, just like Ronnie's! I really like that little tidbit! (smile!)

"Yes, very nice. And what about the second Indian movie?"

Believe it or not, it was a ghost story!!! "Bhool Bhuliyaa 3" was most definitely timed for a Halloween release. Like the two preceding movies in this series, the story revolved around a malevolent spirit, Manjulika, who was haunting the palace and keeping out the royal family. Enter 34-yo Kartik Aaryan as 'Rooh Baba', passing himself off as a ghostbuster, kinda sorta. He gets busted as a fraud and tricked into going to the palace to handle their ghost problem so the royals can move out of the cattle shed and back home. Very funny movie!!! Much more romance in this one, too, with six musical numbers, too! My favorite has to be "Hukkush Phukkush", with its 'hocus pocus' pun in its title and lyrics. Nice inside joke, y'all!

"What a rare treat for AMC to have those two movies! And for you to be able to use your A*List reservations to watch for free!!!"

Right? Carolyn had been quite surprised at that. She was with me for that double header on Monday, with us popping out to Olive Garden for dinner in between them.

"So, what shall you see for the third movie?"

Actually, it's the first movie that's missing: "Here".

"What was its title?"

"Here", the new one with Tom Hanks and Robin Wright and a crazy amount of technical help. They get to age from teens that end up pregnant to senior citizens with age-related issues. Still, they are not the focus of the movie. The piece of land the house sits on is the core. The couple and their progeny, as well as the residents before and after them, just serve to mark the passage of time, as does the music. I got to hear "Monster Mash" and even "A Brand New Key" as the movie progressed, reminding me of very recent fun times! That may have been my favorite parts of the movie. Oh, plus the whole bit with the invention of the "Relaxy Boy" recliner was delightful!!!

"Wasn't there something about your great-great-great-whatever-grand uncle?"

You mean Benjamin Franklin? Why, yes, there were a couple of mentions of him. Apparently, his bastard son, William, owned the land for a while, and we have several scenes with him kvetching about the father. 

"That's odd."

Well, the whole movie was odd, bouncing around disjointedly in time, just as "We Live In Time" had done. I endured it better this time, though, partly because of the great soundtrack, partly due to the historical elements thrown in. Would I watch it again? Not if I have to pay for it. Maybe someone will string together those bits with the La-Z-Boy inventor. I would definitely watch that part!

"Well, why isn't it listed in your trio?"

I have no idea. AMC has become a bit haphazard with their bookkeeping. That's okay. I know which movies, and when, and that's really all that matters. (smile!)

Alex, what are a baby, a button, and a tween princess?

"Oooohhh! Are we talking of movies or plays?"

 

One musical and two plays, actually.

 

"Very nice!!! Okay! So, the category is perhaps things that are missing?"

 

No, the category... what the hey... how did you know that???

 

"Hahaha! G'friend, you have to try harder to fool me with stuff like this. Remember, I was right there with you."

 

So were my amigas. Well, for the first one. That was on Friday night. I was the one who let Sandy and Barbara and Kaye know about this musical written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. Let me tell you, those teens at Savannah Country Day did an amazing job!!!

"They most certainly did! I know they are all the "Bright Star" in their families!"

For sure! Especially the five seniors - Madison DeLoach (as the smart teen who had a baby out of wedlock in the 1920's), Silas Johnson (the young man who fathered the baby, and whose father took the baby off "for adoption"), Liv Posey (the mother of the smart teen, as well as the dance coach of the show), Ben Templeton (the young writer who shows up in the 1940's), and Aidan Dunne (the stage manager for this musical with its cast of twenty). Kudos to the new director, James Venhaus, too!

"Don't forget: it's based on a true story! Shall we do the big reveal about the baby???"

No, we shall not. Some of these kind folks might actually see it sometime and we wouldn't want to spoil the surprise concerning that missing baby. It truly is a wonderful tale!

 

"Okay, okay, I won't spill the beans. So, let's talk about that bear! Did any of your amigas join you for that one?"

 

You know darn well they did not. Honestly, I didn't even ask them. I knew that "Corduroy" was aimed at small children and that demographic isn't quite their cup of tea. Remember the No Kidding! meetup? I liked the play, though! So did the little kids that were there! They even got to come on the stage and interact with the clowns during the intermission!

"Clowns??? I though it was about a toy bear in overalls..."

It was! And, much like Ralph's hobo garments, his was missing a button. So, he wandered all over the department store looking for it, much to the chagrin of the beleaguered night watchman, who kept putting the bear back in the toy department! Very funny!!"

"You skipped right over the clowns..."

They were the prop people for this black box performance at the Savannah Children's Theatre! Very entertaining for the little ones, and for us big kids, too!

 

"Got ya. Good idea, that was, especially with all the scene changes."

 

Yep! The way the Hive Repertory Theatre handled their many set changes would have allowed the tykes to lose their concentration.

 

"Wow! You finally went out to Rincon for one of their plays?!?"

 

I did, and for a night play at that. I have SJCAF events all day tomorrow, so I didn't have the option of the Sunday matinee. What a busy weekend this is!!!

 

"You must have really wanted to see this production, to have gone at night."

 

Hey, "Tooth & Tail" promised me pirates, a dragon, and a princess, all in the same story. You know I couldn't resist a set up like that!

 

"I hear ya loud and clear. So, how was it?"

 

It was a lot of fun! This was a fairly minimalist production, just as the other two were this weekend. The Hive used a couple of different painted curtains to change scenes, which they did frequently throughout both acts. The primaries consisted of a talking female fox; her best friend who takes on life as a pirate; a witch that speaks only in rhyme; a knight who becomes a dragon through a curse; a princess who is 12 and 11/12 years old; and the princess' attendant and guard, Molly. There were about 5 or 6 other characters to round out the cast.

"12 and 11/12 years old - that's funny! So, she gets kidnapped at some point?"

She does! And it's almost akin to "The Ransom Of Red Chief", as she never, ever, shuts up. Mostly she is asking questions and trying to figure things out, but she just cannot take a hint when someone tries to get a moment of peace.

 

"Hahaha! And did the play have anything to do with the video game of the same name?"

 

Well, not quite the same name; the video title spells out "And" rather than use an ampersand. And, no, other than the talking fox as the sole anthropomorphic animal, the two have naught in common. Fine by me!

"Very good! I'm glad that live theatre has ramped back up to its pre-pandemic level."

Up to it, and beyond! There may be fewer troupes, but they're doing more shows. I say a big old "Hallelujah!!!" to that! And I'll have one more play on Tuesday night. February has been a very busy month...
