still fits, more than 30 years later

So, remember that I went to an SJCAF film with the J-Dawg and ended up bringing out my wedding gown to show him?
And the next morning I'd taken a photo of me in said garment?
Yes, that was back in mid-March.
Well, with another cultural event about sewing coming up, last week I posted the following on the book of face.

"Throwback Thursday is still a thing, right?
Well, I had pulled out my wedding gown,
that I made thirty years ago,
to show off to my bfe.
The next day, it was still out...
so I tried it on.
Wonder of wonders, it still kinda sorta fits...
if I leave the zipper down...
which I had to as it's in the back and I can't reach it.
LOL!
"

What I liked about the photo was how young I look in it.
I think I look younger than I actually was on my wedding day, all those years ago!
But no one seemed to notice that.
The dress, however, definitely caught their eye.
I had 41 folks like & love it, plus comments!
(smile!)

Still looks good.

Faustina Smith
Thanks, Rhonda! I had meant to refashion it into a nice cocktail dress, but... yeah, doubt I'll ever do that. I still love all the different types of lace I used on it. Oh, and that peau de soie skirt... such a nice feel to it, even now.

Cathy MacGowan
Very pretty. Can't try on mine. I burnt my wedding dress. :-)

Zachary Smith
Looks good silly. I love you

I only clicked laughing because I could hear you saying that in n my head!
You are beautiful!
Love you.
Silver bells for you!

Hallie Henry Allgood
Beautiful lace!

Faustina Smith
Hallie, you wouldn't believe how long it took to find lace without roses! I really don't like roses very much. My flowers for the wedding were bird-of-paradise.

Venita Johnson
So pretty!

Susan Morgan
You made it?!

Faustina Smith
Susan, yes, I did, while going to grad school! I used my Aunt Linda L. Walker's sewing machine.

Sandra Cherise Karlin
You made it? Can you take a picture of it on the hanger?
I'd love to see the whole dress!

Faustina Smith
Sandy, here it is! Picture really doesn't do it justice.

Jo Coleman-Williams
Absolutely gorgeous!!!

Marcia Ford
Beautiful as the one in it.
Look a lot like your sweet mama.

I just wish Mama was still here to zip me up, to see if it really does still fit, all these years later.
Amazing to think how many who were there are now dead.
Besides Mama, there's also Daddy, Grandma, and Frank.
Mother Pat is gone, as is Auntie Arlene, and Jeff's cousins David and Brian.
My middle little brother, Ronnie, has also passed.
And Sam "Blaxstone" Johnson is gone, too.
So many angels in my life...

I had forgotten, until today, two other names of those no longer here.

One was my niece, Jean Marie, who was just six years old at the time.

The other was Eugene Wolfbauer, Mother Pat's gentleman friend for so many years.

All told, about a fourth of those who bore witness, including Frank Downing, the officiate, are now dead, thirty years later.
Gone, but certainly not forgotten, as they all have pieces of my heart.

Maybe that's the real reason that my heart now beats off-key.
