I did, I did! I did watch cawtoons this mowning!

"Hahahaha! Was it Tweety bird?"

Gotcha! No, it wasn't with that little yellow sweetie. There may have been one of those on during the 9 AM set, but I wasn't up in time for them. I just barely managed to catch the last one!

"I see! It's Bugs Bunny! But what's up with him? He looks old."

That's because he is old!!! In "Old Grey Hare", with appropriate music, Elmer Fudd recounts the many years of his contretemps with the rabbit, from their infancy up to their golden years, with white whiskers and plenty of wrinkles. Very funny!

"I'm glad it started your day off on the right note!"

Good pun! You must have looked up "The Old Gray Mare", didn't you? You rascal, you!

"I just couldn't help myself! I felt a pun was in order!"

Hey, IMHO, a pun is always in order. (smile!)

"And so you had to go for the photo op?"

You betcha! And bet you can't guess what I've titled it.

"You really have a title for the picture?"

I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it. Oh, how about I give you a clue? There's a dance song from Kool & The Gang that inspired my title!

"Yeah, I don't know that it helps much."

Oh, come on! You have to sing along, and be sure to bounce and twirl when you do! Do it with me now! 'Holly-w-o-o-o-od, Hollywood swinging!'

"Hence, the title is 'Holly-w-o-o-o-od hair'?" 

Absofrickinlutely! Just look at that gorgeous ripple of gray curving its way down, there on the left side of my face - gorgeous, I tell ya!

"I grant you that. It is quite striking."

Yep, I like it more and more all the time. Being a movie extra has only enhanced my love of the gray. Nadia did such a good job of making sure it showed!

"Indeed she did! Accenting that part of Mama in you made both of you so happy!"

I agree! It made sure Mama had a piece of my action on the set! Then again, that gray could just as well be from Daddy. His hair stayed mostly dark underneath, like mine. That rick darkness was a real surprise to the hairdresser! So, I think of the silver striping as being from Mama and the dark bed as a gift from Daddy.

"I like that. You've always had a bit from both parents running through your veins."

Hey, literally. That's why my blood is AB. I forget which had A and which had B, but I got the mix of the two.

"I'm not sure that's quite how that works..."

Hey, that's my story and I'm sticking with it! Me and my Holly-w-o-o-o-od hair!

"LOL! Fine, fine! But, hey, one question: Didn't you wear that shirt last week?"

Ummm... yes... but it isn't dirty, and it doesn't smell, and I'll be seeing folks tonight who haven't yet seen me in it, so that's okay. Wait, I take that back. Christina and her girls saw it on Monday when I was with them, and they'll be at the gathering this evening. Still, I feel safe in assuming that she won't remember what I wore. Her brain was in "Mom mode" and concentrating on the kids.

"I see. So, who else has seen you in it recently?"

Well, Jeff and Amy did. Plus, Barbara and Sandy and Kaye did, when we went to "Quilters". Then there was the play date at the mall. Oh, and the folks at the Eisenhower cinema, when I saw "Nope" on Friday, plus those at the Shawnee cinema on Sunday, for the Star Trek film, then on Wednesday and Thursday for the rest of my A*List movies.

"And those were?"

"Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul." and "The Invitation". The first was a mockumentary about a documentary that was supposed to show the comeback of a megachurch minister that had lost his congregation, save for a handful of stalwarts, when he'd been sued for sexual misconduct. This was yet another movie that the previews got wrong. Don't those in advertising ever watch things all the way through?

"Highly unlikely. They gotta get to happy hour, dudette!"

That must be why they labeled that movie a comedy. So wrong, so very wrong. But a good movie, especially as it was taken from the wife's eyes. Definitely a good movie.

"And what about that last one? Wasn't that a horror flick?"

Well, so it was billed. Actually, it was a 'monster romance', and you know how I enjoy those. Especially if you throw in a few vampires! But I think what I liked most was the twist at end. As I told Dexter, the usher, afterward, that reminded me very much of a movie from what I thought was last year. All I recalled was that it was about a new bride who went to the in-law's house, where the custom was to all play a game together and the one she drew from the hat was 'hide and seek'. So he looked it up on his hip computer (aka 'smart phone') and guess when it was?

"Two years ago?"

Three years, almost exactly. I'd seen it with Kevin, after Hurricane Dorian. It was his turn to pick and "Ready Or Not", as the movie was actually titled, was the one chosen. I ended up finding it 'deliciously funny', and not so much a horror film as a thriller.

"And had Dexter seen it?"

He had not! But he assured me that it was going onto his list! He and I seem to share a taste for thrillers and so he appreciated this older lady for recommending a 'new' one for him. He's seen "Nope" a time or two, too. Nice, right?

"Definitely! Good to know you're interacting more with others. That's good for you!"

 Most def! And I'll have more of that tonight, and more hugs! Hooray! Oh, my, is that the time? I gotta get a move on, g'friend!

"Later!!! Don't do anything I wouldn't do!"

As for the medication, Dr. Cobb said he is leaving that up to me.

If I want to stop taking the sotalol, that will be fine.

If I want to cut the dosage, that will be fine.

If I want to continue with it as I currently am, that will be fine.

Wow.

He is very pleased with my recovery and trusts my judgement.

Wow!

I told him I will continue the regimen of 40 mg, twice daily, and continue analysis of the readings from my blood pressure monitor.

It has only registered arrythmia twice since late June, when I had COVID-19.

Amazing, right?

He thought so, too.

I wonder how many others have experienced a health benefit from that disease?

Yes, that's me, looking for the silver lining...

and absolutely positive that it's out there.

movie title: making wishes

"You've been on another set with Central Casting?" 

Hahaha! Nope! Not yet! I sure hope to, sooner rather than later, but not yet.

"Then, what movie are you talking about???"

The little two-frame short that's on my phone, silly one kenobi.

"You finally got a smart phone? Wow!"

Seriously, every phone with a camera can make a video, including my Alcatel.

"And you have just now learned how to do that?"

No, I've actually done it accidentally several times. I would think I was in 'camera' mode, but when I would check the shot, it was on the 'video' setting. Silly fingers.

"Well, all I see here are two photos of Christina's girls."

Yep! That's the movie!!! I just flip back and forth between those shots and I have them bending over to toss in their pennies, then turning back around to face us! I think Chloe knew all the time that I was taking their pictures!

"I bet you're right. She's really grown up a lot this year."

She certainly has. It won't be long before she's taller than Miyah. I'm so glad to have spent three hours with them for Labor Day!

"Oh, that's right! That was today? So, no barbeques going on?"

Nope! It worked out perfectly! I got to spend some quality time with the girls and I even was able to have an intelligent conversation with my first niece!! Taking them to the play area at Oglethorpe Mall was the perfect option!

"Very good! I know that was good for all four of you!"

It truly was. And I even have a "date" to go there next Monday to watch Chloe play soccer!

"Won't that mean you have to stay the night?"

Well, probably, as the practice doesn't begin until 6 PM. We'll see!

"You'll have to let me know how it all goes."

"Was 'Gilligan's Island' running at night?"

Nope! It was some crazy movie compiled from several episodes of "Dusty's Trail", an early 70's series that I seem to have totally missed.

"And the name of the movie?" 

It was "The Wackiest Wagon Train In The West", released in 1976. I don't recall ever seeing it, either. Seems like it would have perfect for the drive-in cinemas! Funny and sweet!

"So, my guess is you were attracted to it because it's a western?"

Yeah. I suppose that "Nope" has set me in that direction, but it's also a comedy, with lots of pratfalls and such. And, even though I hadn't seen it, it was very familiar to me.

"Let me guess. Did it have a story line centered on the misadventures of seven people?"

It did!!! Honestly, it was "Gilligan's Island" reset in time and space to the American wild, wild west in the 1800's!

"I was just kidding. Are you serious???"

I am!!! This photo is of Bob Denver, known as 'Dusty', and Forrest Tucker as the wagonmaster, 'Mister Callahan'. For this segment, both are disguised as 'Dolly' and 'Kitty' to try to fool two gold-miners in search of women.

"Those miners must have been pretty hard up to fall for that!" 

Well, the ruse didn't last long, because Gilligan... I mean, Dusty... screwed it up...

"... as he always did!"

You got it! Leaving the Captain - as represented by Mr. Callahan - to sort things out, with the help of the others. The Professor = Andy. May Ann = Betsy. Ginger with the red hair = blonde Lulu. The Howells = the Brookhavens. Honestly, after I made my scorecard, it was easy to know what to expect from the players!

"Not that it would have been difficult otherwise, but I'm sure you found that fun."

I did! And today has been a pleasant, leisurely day. I went earlier to another 40th anniversary event, this time at the cinema for "Star Trek: The Wrath Of Khan".

"Very nice!!! That Ricardo Montalbán was always so easy on the eyes!"

Totally agreed!!! And though I very much remembered his death in the movie, I had forgotten that Spock also died. That took me by surprise.

"Well, you can thank your ability to forget movie endings for that. I guess that's one of the reasons you can watch a movie multiple times and still be perfectly satisfied at the end of it, as if it's all new to you again."

Hey, what can I say? Except I must now bid you adieu as I play with children tomorrow. So, say 'good night', dear!

The best thing about long holiday weekends?

Seeing folks from out of town!

Jeff and Amy were in Savannah because... well, as the ex put it, "stupid cheap air fares made it ridiculous not to go!"

Seriously!

Plus, they had 'free' lodging at TRYP, too.

All the more reason to fly south and take in events they couldn't get back home!

Oh, and visit with me, too, and other folks.

They spoiled me rotten, I must admit... and I loved every bit of it!

They even picked me up, so I wouldn't have to deal with parking - how 'bout that?

Then we dined at The Crystal Beer Parlor, a place I used to frequent on Monday evenings after class, to play trivia with the Liquor Posse and others.

This time, I tried something new: the shrimp salad sandwich.

Yeah, I seem to be on a kick with those lately!

Actually, I find myself eating shrimp in whatever form this year: grilled, or boiled, or fried, or even on a skewer - yum, yum, yum for all, I say!

We had such a good time talking and catching up that we found ourselves having to rush in the drizzle for the matinee at Club One!

This was the premiere of "Rockabye", the first work of many to come from Sushi Soucy... and just in time for his/their 20th birthday.

The Lovecraft-flavored musical has teen musicians stuck with an outerspace babysitting gig and features a cast of mixed-gendered young people.

Amy got meet the playwright's talented dad, Chris, from whom she got part of her writing and musical talent.

Aunt JinHi was there, too, as well as Lynita and Monica from trivia days and A-frame parties.

Plus, my friends Patrick and Sarah - from the years of JavaFlix - had driven up from Jacksonville.

So good to see so many I love, all in one place!

After the play, Amy had bought tickets for another show for us three: "Top Secret" with Front Porch Improv!

This is a scene from my favorite skit, "late-night call-in talk radio", with the ditsy duo responding to 'callers' reading the audience's play slips - very funny!

But I also liked the skit where everyone died - lol!

Shades of a favorite from years ago that Odd Lot did for their favorite Korean for his birthday!

Afterward, we left the sold-out house to wander back to midtown.

They have a "surprise 60th birthday" breakfast with Andy and his wife, Sheryl, in the morning, then they venture back to Jacksonville for some leisure time.

Monday, they'll be on a silver Allegiant bird, flying north by northwest.

Hmm... seems like there should be a song about that somewhere!

Sadly, though, this movie that Tomasz had curated for his foreign movie club was not very good.

I had high hopes for it, as it was written and directed by Kevin Kline's son... but "Funny Pages" was overly full of grotesqueness, as demonstrated by its cast of characters and their mean spirits.

Funny strange, yes.

Funny  "hahaha", most definitely a resounding "No".

Tonight's entertainment was much better, even though we again had rain!

Barbara and Sandy were with me again, as well as their theatre-loving friend with the banker's hours, Kaye.

(That's an inside joke with mi amigas!)

It's an opening night reception!!!

"Quilters" was a pure delight!

As well as being a musical, it was a true celebration of the work that women do, now, then, and always.

The seven actresses portrayed a multitude of characters, recounting the stories of these pioneer women through the designs of sixteen quilt blocks.

Magnificent!

Some were patterns I'd seen before; many were new to me, and hardly any were reflected in the myriad of quilts displayed on the walls of the stage, the walls in the lobby, and the walls up and down the hall.

Even the women's costumes were constructed of quilts!

It reminded me of my quilting days, during my teens and beyond.

I don't recall whatever became of the quilt I made for Great-Granny White.

However, the pillow I quilted for Grandma, to accompany her on her Greyhound bus rides, was constructed from bits of clothing I'd made during my disco days.

Reds, pinks, and white-on-white.

After she died in 1997, the pillow was returned to me, and it sits in the rocking chair I brought back from Panama.

And now, thanks to this historical musical, I again know the name of that pattern.

Hahahaha! Oh, that's rich! But not quite right. Still, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

"Well, maybe you're speaking of a beat cop on foot patrol?"

'Fraid not, dearie. That's a long way off track!

"Oh, wait, I was looking at 'jake' as a noun, but maybe you meant the verb form? You know, of playing a mischievous prank on someone?"

Well, that's what I'm doing here, in a way.

Perhaps it's because I've got a case of the midwatch giggles.

After all, it's past midnight and now heading to the second wee hour of the night after or the morning before, or however that goes.

Anyway, there I was, flipping back and forth between two shows, avoiding the dreaded political ad 'mercials, when it struck me that I was in the company of two fellows named Jake, both with girl problems, both looking for help from others. What a hoot, right?

"Yeah, what a hoot. You have any more of those giggle inducers?"

Aw, come on! You know that's a hoot! Jake on "Becker" and Jake on "Two And A Half Men", both on at midnight-thirty and dealing with similar issues? That's priceless!

"Um hmm."

Well, fine. I guess I'll just go ahead and take my silly self to bed.

"Um hmm."

plethora of theatre activity!!!

It seems that every troupe in this seaport is trying to get going again!

That's all well and good, truly, as there has been a dearth of that since the pandemic began.

But, still... all in this same month???

Apparently so.

 

The Collective Face Theatre Ensemble will have "Quilters" for the first two weekends.

That's a musical from 1982, which I'll be attending tonight.

Fortunately, that will be at the Savannah Children's Theatre midtown, so there will be plenty of free parking. 

(smile!) 

The SavChTh will most definitely have a play, but they're performing it elsewhere.

The musical, "Pete The Cat", based on a children's book series, will be at The Historic Savannah Theatre on Bull Street.

Why?

I don't know, unless it's to draw more locals to that venue downtown.

That starts the third weekend of September and runs through the first weekend of October.

Most likely, I'll be catching that last production.

Most likely, I'll be going for the Sunday matinee... parking is free for Sundays.

(Yes, I'm a local and I object to paying for the privilege of parking downtown.)

The Bay Street Theatre will host the premiere of "Rockabye" for Labor Day weekend, as special early matinees, at the Club One location downtown.

The following two weekends will see BST's production of "Tick, Tick... Boom!", a pseudo-autobiographical musical written by Jonathan Larson (of "Rent" fame) in 1990.

The troupe already presented "Murder At The Bay Street Cabaret" last month, and will offer its near-annual romp, "The Rocky Horror Show", next month.

I missed the one in August as I was having my 45-inning vacation, and I doubt I'll go to October's show, as I've seen it so often; however, I'll be at "Rockabye" on Saturday and hope to see the other September musical.

Sadly, there's a serious parking issue, now and in the future, exacerbated by the recent permanent closure of two blocks of Broughton to vehicular traffic.

 

The Savannah Stage Company will be reprising their musical "Charlotte's Web" production from 2020, just before the COVID pandemic began here in the US.

There will be two major differences, though.

Rather than use the cramped space down in the Starland area, this will be at the Tybeee Post Theatre, so parking may be a challenge, but not bad.

And, rather than use the adults for the show, their new Teen Troupe will be treading the boards and sharing their talents.

I just may have to go see it on its one-night, mid-month, stand!

Savannah Repertory Theatre will have its professional actors at work for "The Christians" for the third and fourth weekends of this month.

Yes, the same time that the BST and SavStageCo and SavChTh will have plays.

Ack! I guess they don't think their audiences overlap!

But I like it all!!!

Just too eclectic, if that's any such thing.

At least their downtown location is still being remodeled.

That's why the production will be at Asbury Memorial Church.

There's certainly plenty of parking there!!!

And, rounding out the month with its southside location at Jenkins Hall on the GaSoU: Armstrong campus will be "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940"!

I don't know if the college troupe is still called the Masquers, but I hope so.

I hope the physicist will join me, too, as he loves stuff from that era.

It will only play for that first weekend of October, though.

And parking???

So...much...free...parking!!!

I wonder just how many of these I'll be seeing?

One thing about being retired is having a fixed income and I recently gave myself a pay cut.

Maybe some of the shows need volunteers to help out...
