faustina's film festival: first ten days
Swordplay! Dancing! Gigolos! Magic!
Of the fourteen movies which comprise this span of time, those four words are apt descriptors.
I have not yet seen today's film, as that is scheduled for 4 PM this afternoon (prior to trivia in Pooler with the Live Out Loud! group). However, I've seen "The Breakfast Club" several times, so it's no stranger to me.
Why include it in my special New Year's resolution group?
Honestly, I need to see a hale and healthy Judd Nelson to rinse out the residue from two months ago.
Plus, it had dancing in it, so it fits with those four categories!
(smile)
Here is the slate of already-viewed films, from Day One.
May 1 was a doubleheader day! "How To Be A Latin Lover" preceded the giving of the Chem1152 Final Exam, as an appetizer, while "Baahubali 2" was the dessert course.
(That gave me dancing in both, with some Bollywood swordplay action, too! The first also had three gigolos, plus Raquel Welch in a hilarious grandma role!)
May 2 was another doubleheader! "Free Fire" featured a bunch of gunslingers with no sense of marksmanship, firing near-continuously, with mostly glancing hits, for at least an hour - hilarious! Then, as it was "Tina Tuesday", I was graced with Kevin beside me for "Sleight" - I wish the bfe could have been there, too!
(The guns a-blazin' flick featured a fellow dressed like a gigolo and folks "dancing" to avoid bullets. The latter had mAgiC!!! Oh, and Gus of "Psych" as a psychotic drug pin - wow!)
May 3 found me at a sparsely attended Fathom Event: "I Am Heath Ledger". I very much enjoyed all the positive energy from those who knew and loved him.
(Plus, it had him dancing, having adventures, and performing swordplay in "A Knight's Tale", which I had very much loved. Anachronistic history, like with Matt Damon in "The Great Wall"!)
May the 4th (be with you!) landed me at a long-awaited "Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol. 2" on a very special "Tina Thursday" with the running bear. What a treat! I speak, of course, of both the time with him and sharing the superhero film with him by my side. Very nice!
(Dancing! Magic! Incredible music to sing to as I danced in my seat! Plus, Kurt Russell stars as an evil presence on the order of "Unbreakable"'s Elijah Price. Nice to see 95-year-old Stan Lee in an extended role!)
May 5 saw a need for an independence film, so "The Promise" was viewed, this one with Barbara.
(Dancing at an Armenian wedding! Magical bedroom eyes!)
May 6's movie was "Mirror Mirror". In a cinema? No, silly, from ON DEMAND, for free with my basic cable subscription!
(mAgiC! Dancing (including Bollywood-style)! Swordplay! And let's not forget the glory of the damsel princess rescuing the prince from the seven dwarfs!)
By May 7, I had discovered the treasure trove of Indian films ON DEMAND! "Mastizaade", aka "The King of Fun", was the first of a Bollywood doubleheader. I finished up the day with SRK in "Main Hoon Na" - "I'm Here Now" - to steer me into sweet dreams. Oh, yes!
(Both, of course, had much dancing in the Bollywood tradition! One was a modern comedy with lots of sexual intuendos, while the other featured an undercover agent who falls in love with a chemistry teacher - rock on!)
Monday, May 8th, mandated another movie doubleheader! All free, too! "Envy" accompanied me during my leisurely school's-out brunch, then I delved back into history with "1942: A Love Story", set in India at the end of the Ottoman Empire.
(Believe it or not, the first movie had the invention of VaPOOrize, a spray that eliminated feces like mAgiC! Both had dancing, too!)
Last night, May 9, it was time for something light and lighthearted, as there was no "Tina Tuesday" this week. "Born In China" fit the bill very nicely, especially as Barbara joined me. And it turns out that Carolyn was there, too! We had such a lovely hour-long parking lot visit after the film!
(Dancing! Well, if you count the monkey's antics - and I do!)
And then, as I said, "The Breakfast Club" will be seen tonight, with its dancing and shenanigans.
(smile!)
i thank You, God, for this resolution!

Clearly, I'm going to have to step up the pace if I am to have 59 films under my belt by month's end! No worries - I'll just have to throw in a few grand slams!
When I ha seen "The Promise" on May 5th, I had been impressed that Chris Cornell - whose music had helped me so much after Jean Marie's death - had been tapped for the title song. Very nice!

What a shock to realize that he died - by his own hand - just two weeks later. He was only 52.
