he's gotta be fast...

Today is going to be a tripleheader for Faustina's Film Festival, yes, indeed!
This second in the "I need a hero" series called for me to head north.

The GTC Pooler cinema was the site
of the two-day-only screening
of the 1982 science fiction film,
"E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" -
and I wanted to see Drew Barrymore!
What a cutie pie!
And how very brave little Elliot was!
When faced with an alien, did he try to kill it?
No, he did not.
He tried to communicate with it, once he - and it - overcame the fear factor.
What a good scientist he was, determining
what food the otherworldly creature would eat,
what fears to avoid, and - importantly -
how to help the strange brother
from another mother
contact his compatriots to return home.

Elliott was very quick at learning from the alien.
The boy was also very fast on his bicycle!
But what made the child a hero?
He strove to save someone who was very different from himself.
I strive to do the same.
My support of Oskar, the blind cat...
those DEEP kids searching for meaning...
a young woman spreading the word about her physical disability...
soldiers coping with PTSD through writing...
elderly actors showing their stuff to the world...
and, of course, every year, the Special Olympics.

i thank You, God, that I am so blessed.
