the right roofer, right on the roof

Jammey said he would be here today, and...
so he was!
He had hoped to have come by yesterday, but he had a family emergency come up.
I had let him know how important it was that this be done this weekend, so he said today...
and he meant it!
So, just what is it that he's doing?
Well, he had started on the back edge of the roof, putting caulk around those rubber boots on the gas line, the bathroom exhaust pipe, and the kitchen exhaust pipe.
Those three items in his "roof maintenance plan" needed attention to prevent future issues.
The flashing around the chimney was the next task.
Not only did it need some protective caulk but the flashing was trying to rust out.
Paint took care of that.
After caulking the one nail pop back there, it was on to the front for the lifted shingles.
He took his time, carefully removing nails in dead air to prevent future nail pops (holes made by vibrating nail heads when the nail misses the beam).
He was about to climb on down when I asked about the "warped underlayment" area.
He demonstrated that one of the 1x6 planks that formed that roof was responsible for what seemed to be a ridge, but his bouncing on it didn't budge it.
It's solid, no structural issues there!
He's going to write that up for the insurance company and send it to me.
All told, he was there less than an hour...
and that included getting his ladder out and up and back down and in the truck.
Nice.
I thanked him and explained that he'd been chosen for the work because of his thorough inspection and professional attitude.
I think he was a bit surprised that I had two roofers come out.
But he was quite pleased with my appreciation of his work ethic.
I'll be glad to pass the name of Jammey Townsend...
and his Southeast Coastal Contracting...
along to my friends and neighbors.
Hallelujah, this is done!
