This was at Asbury Memorial Church, once part of the United Methodist Church and still practicing as John Wesley had.
The event was almost a week after the church Christmas party.
Perfectly timed for Mama's birthday, the 13th Colony Sound was in the house that Saturday evening to present "Holiday Harmonies".
What perfect acoustics for their a cappella singing!
I wasn't actually feeling down, but I will definitely attest that after an hour of their melodious renditions of familiar Christmas songs, with me accompanying them sotto voce, I was certainly in higher spirits when I departed!
Well done!
It's just around the corner and down the street.
They were presenting "A Christmas In Savannah" and I wanted to experience their show.
What a show it was, too!
Liturgical dancers enacting in pantomime, a formal orchestra in the wings, full choir in holiday colors, and even an acoustic sing-along of carols with the audience standing in the packed pews!
There were even ribbon twirlers during "The Little Drummer Boy", with four teens lightly playing their drums in key places in the audience.
Truly a magnificent show!
I could have done without the sermonizing segments, though, as they were a bit of a downer.
I arrived just as the free show began and stayed until candles were lit at the end.
Rather, that's what I thought we were doing at Bnai Brith Jacob Synagogue... nope!
Rambam Day School was presenting its annual holiday play and this year it was a musical!!!
"There's No Place Like Home" had Dorothy and her brother Toto, swept up by a tornado and deposited in the Land of the Munchkins, with Glenda, Gladys, and Gus telling them to follow the Yellow Brick Road to find the Promised Land.
Magnificent fun!
So were the Scarecrow and the Tin Man and that Lion with its Spotted Cow!
There was even a cow of a different color - hahahaha!
And Oz turned out to be a farmer named Boaz wearing a straw hat!
No slack in this show, as it zoomed right along from scene to musical number to the next scene!
The closing number was, of course, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version of the classic song.
I sang right along with all those kids strumming ukeleles to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What A Wonderful World" - what a finish!
Three holiday-themed performances, all located in midtown, all for free.
What a blessing!
i thank You, God!
